Education has long been recognized as a powerful tool for transformation—a pathway to opportunity and a beacon of hope for communities striving for a better future. In the Volta Region of Ghana, where limited resources once made learning a daily struggle, school donations of books, furniture, and learning materials have played a crucial role in uplifting students and improving learning conditions.
Through the combined efforts of MOM Foundation and its generous partners, schools that once lacked basic necessities experienced remarkable improvements, giving students renewed motivation and enhancing the quality of teaching and learning.
Transforming Genui Basic School Through Essential Learning Resources

At Genui Basic School, classroom conditions were far from ideal. Teachers and students faced significant challenges due to inadequate materials and limited infrastructure. A shocking moment was discovering the head teacher's office, which was a desk and a chair under a tree. The impact of inadequate conditions was evident: in 2012, the school recorded only a 37% pass rate in the BECE.
The introduction of donated books and furniture sparked a positive shift. Teachers could organize lessons more effectively, students gained access to essential learning tools, and the school community felt encouraged, knowing that external support was uplifting their efforts. This simple intervention began restoring confidence and creating a more conducive learning environment.
From a 0% Pass Rate to Renewed Possibility: The Story of Atito Basic School
For Atito Basic School, the situation was even more urgent. With a 0% BECE pass rate in 2012, the school was in critical need of intervention. Severe shortages of teachers and learning materials left students discouraged and disengaged.
One of the most transformative developments was the construction of a new computer lab, an important step toward achieving digital literacy. However, the lab remained unusable due to the absence of furniture and equipment.
Through the donation from our partners in Liverpool, the empty space came to life. This support enabled students to finally engage with technology, building foundational practical skills essential for today’s world.
Alakple Basic School: A Library Reborn Through Book Donations
At Alakple Basic School, a fully constructed library stood empty for months because it lacked reading materials. That changed when the school received a substantial donation of books that filled the empty shelves and opened new doors for students.
With access to storybooks, textbooks, and supplementary reading materials, students developed a deeper love for learning. The library quickly became a hub of curiosity, literacy development, and academic growth.
The Ripple Effect: Empowering Teachers and Inspiring Students
The impact of these donations extended far beyond physical resources.
Teachers, once overwhelmed by overcrowded classrooms and inadequate facilities, felt more equipped and motivated.
Students, who had struggled with discouragement, began to show renewed enthusiasm for their studies.
The availability of books, furniture, and learning tools helped create an environment where education felt meaningful, accessible, and full of promise.
Supporting Ghana’s Progress Toward the Sustainable Development Goals
These school interventions reflect key global priorities, directly aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
SDG 4: Quality Education – improving school infrastructure and access to learning materials.
SDG 1: No Poverty – empowering children with education that helps break cycles of hardship.
SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities – giving students in rural communities equal learning opportunities.
The progress in the Volta Region demonstrates what can happen when communities unite to prioritize children’s futures.
The Work Continues—And You Can Be Part of It

Whether through donating, volunteering, or spreading the message, every action counts. There is still more to be achieved. Items, funds, and volunteer support are all powerful ways to renew hope, create opportunities, and drive lasting change in the lives of Ghanaian children through quality education.
Join the movement to make a real impact.
