In Ghana, where women make up 52% of the agricultural labor force and produce 70% of the country's food crops, their role in agriculture is undeniable. Yet, many face significant challenges that limit their potential and productivity. Mother of Many (MOM) Foundation operates with the belief that “When you empower a woman, you empower a generation.” Guided by this powerful African proverb, the foundation is committed to creating a lasting change in Fievie, a farming community within Sogakope in the Volta Region, as it's model project.
Through its women and youth empowerment program, MOM Foundation seeks to provides resources, skills, and support to assist the women improve their livelihoods, secure their futures, and uplift their communities. This program is part of the Sustainable Livelihood for Community Empowerment (SLICE) initiative, which works to enhance the lives of underserved communities across Ghana.

Understanding the Community’s Needs
With the support of the traditional council, our team met with the female farmers at the Community Secretariat Hall to gain deeper insight into their livelihoods and explore ways to provide meaningful, lasting support. Each of them shared information of their farming activities, alongside pressing challenges such as irrigation difficulties, limited access to resources, and insufficient market opportunities. With farming heavily dependent on favorable weather conditions, unreliable water supply further strained their productivity. Understanding these setbacks was crucial, as it allowed us to focus on developing sustainable solutions that genuinely address their needs.
Despite these obstacles, the women remained open and willing to share their experiences, reinforcing the importance of a thoughtful, community-driven approach to creating real impact.

A Path to Community Empowerment
By introducing modern farming techniques like greenhouse farming, improving irrigation, providing training in business and financial literacy, and engaging in continuous advocacy, the foundation aims to transition farmers from subsistence to commercial farming. Through this intervention, agriculture serves as a central tool to address multiple aspects of the community’s needs. It fosters community development by creating employment opportunities along the supply chain in areas like carpentry and other local crafts, logistics, transportation and administration. Moreover, by enhancing financial stability, families can better support their children's education and well-being, contributing to holistic community development.
Aligning with Global Goals

MOM Foundation is committed to creating local impact with global relevance, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We are particularly inspired by how this approach supports key goals, including reducing poverty (SDG 1), achieving zero hunger (SDG 2), and promoting gender equality (SDG 5). By empowering women and youth, MOM Foundation is not only transforming individual lives but also laying the groundwork for a thriving, self-sustaining community.
